Band is offered to all students in 4th and 5th grades. Students receive a weekly half hour group lesson during the school day. In 5th grade, students will also attend weekly band rehearsals during the school day. All students will perform in the spring concert.

Birches Instrumental Music Teacher, Dr. Bushong

The strings program at Birches starts at the third grade level. Students can choose to play violin, viola, or cello, and possibly double bass. Group lessons are held once a week, during school hours for about 35 minutes. Besides keeping up with their school work, students are expected to practice their instrument at least 100 minutes per week (that's about 15 minutes every day). Students who continue in fourth and fifth grade become members of the school orchestra which meets for 40 minutes before the end of the school day. They also continue to have a group lesson once a week.
