Secondary Program (Grades 9-12)

  • Our Performing Arts Department achieved numerous regional and state honors including:
    • 23 students named to the Olympic Conference Honors Band
    • 7 students named to South Jersey Band
    • 11 students named to South Jersey Orchestra
    • 10 students named to South Jersey Chorus
    • 1 student named to All-State Chorus
    • 2 students named to All-State Women’s Chorus
    • The Marching Band won the Group 3A title at the USSBA Northern States Championships and a Grand Champion Award at the Cotton Bowl Festival in Dallas, TX.
    • The students from the Actor’s Studio classes took their play, “The Laramie Project” to the Bucks County Drama Festival and received the Critic’s Award for Outstanding Performance.

  • Our Social Studies Department had several students receiving awards.
    • One senior student was selected to participate in the 4th Legislative District’s Student Enrichment program.
    • WTHS students placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the VFW’s Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Contest.  The 1st place recipient advanced to the regional competition.

  • In the World Languages Department, 49 students took part in the National German Exam and students scored 1st, 3rd and 4th in the region; in the Spanish National Exam students received one gold, 2 silver, one bronze and 23 honorable mentions.
  • For the 7th year in a row, the Monthly Rewind students won the Student Television Award for Excellence and several students placed in the Gloucester County Highway Safety Task force 7th Annual Public Service Announcements Award Ceremony.
  • In the Business Education Department, more than 150 DECA students competed in the Southern Regional Competition, with 51 students qualifying to compete at the NJ State Competition and 5 students advancing to the National Competition in Anaheim, CA.
  • Three Washington Township students achieved perfect scores in the 2010 National Financial Literacy Capability Challenge, sponsored by the US Department of the Treasury.
  • 16 students advanced from the FBLA Regional Competition to the NJ State Competition.
  • Students from the Family and Consumer Science Department took first place in the FCCLA Knowledge Bowl State Competition, and participated in several community service projects.
  • WTHS students won the NJ Math League Division championship for the 21st consecutive year.
  • There were several achievements in the Science Department:
    • The 9/10 TEAMS (Test of Engineering, Aptitude, Math and Science) Team took 2nd place in the state competition and tied for 10th in the national rankings.  The 11/12 Team placed 6th in the state.
    • In The Science League, Biology I and Biology II took 3rd and 2nd place, Chemistry I placed 2nd and Physics I and Physics II placed 4th and 3rd in the first competition.  At the WTHS competition, Biology I took 4th place, Chemistry I took 2nd, Physics I took 3rd and Physics II took 3rd place.
    • WTHS students placed second in the October 30, 2009 Pumpkin Chunkin’ Contest at Rowan University.
    • A  WTHS student was named a Merck Scholar in the Merck State Science Day Competition and all students did a fine job competing.
