Computer Literacy
(6th Grade)
Students in Grade 6 select one World Language to study on a semester basis. Beginning in September 2002, students will be assigned their chosen World Language on a semester basis. Students in Grades 7 and 8 will continue their studies in the 6th Grade World Language choice five days a week.

Regular homework assignments are an integral component of each course in the World Language Department. Regular attendance is critical for a successful experience in each course.

French

In grade 6, students are introduced to the four general linguistic skills: the ability to use correct French pronunciation and intonation patterns, the ability to converse on a novice level in French, the ability to read basic French, and the ability to understand basic phrases and commands given in French. This is accomplished through the material and activities as presented in Exploring French.

In grades 7 and 8, students will continue the study of French through the use of the textbook series, Discovering French. Basic grammatical concepts and conversational units are presented, in addition to building upon those skills introduced in grade 6. Aspects of French culture are also introduced.

German

In grade 6, students are introduced to the four general linguistic skills: the ability to use correct Spanish pronunciation and intonation patters, the ability to converse on a novice level in Spanish, the ability to read in Spanish and to understand basic phrases and commands given in Spanish. This is accomplished through the material and activities as presented in Exploring Spanish.

In grades 7 and 8, students will continue the study of Spanish through the use of the textbook series, En Español. Basic grammatical structures and conversational units are presented, in addition to building upon those skills introduced in grade 6. Aspects of Spanish/Hispanic culture are also introduced.

Computer Literacy (6th Grade Semester Course)

This is a semester long course which will further develop the students' computer skills. The major units of study are: word processing, database, spreadsheet, multimedia, Internet/Web design, desktop publishing, and programming. The curriculum will include career awareness, Internet research skills, and Internet safety/cyber bullying.
