Dear Hurffville Parents and Friends,
It is an honor to announce that Hurffville Elementary was selected to receive the 2005-2006 Governor’s School of Excellence Award. Our school was one of 22 schools selected throughout New Jersey. The Governor’s School of Excellence Award focuses upon demonstrated academic achievement over three years. We are pleased and proud to be noted as an outstanding school. The Washington Township High School was also selected as a Governor’s School of Excellence.
I would like to thank the Hurffville PTO for their outstanding support of our students, staff and school programs. The annual Halloween party held on Saturday, October 22 was a huge success, due to the creative efforts of Debbie Carey-DiClementi, chairperson of the event. Likewise, we are very grateful for the parental support evidenced by an increase in PTO memberships.
According to district policy, Washington Township students may not use cell phones, nor have them turned on, during school hours. As you might imagine, instruction would be disrupted frequently throughout the school day. We appreciate your support of this policy as we attempt to minimize classroom distractions and use academic time for meaningful instruction.
Parents and guardians of students enrolled in grades 3-12 now have regular access to their child’s attendance and grades through the District’s web-based student information system (SIS) PowerSchool. PowerSchool will provide current information over the Internet through the use of a secure password and username, which allows parents to view their child’s grades and attendance as well as to directly email a teacher and to view teacher comments. If you need your student’s password and username, please contact the Hurffville Main Office.
And in keeping with No Child Left Behind, it is a pleasure to inform you that Hurffville Elementary successfully made AYP, annual yearly progress, in all areas based upon the 2005 third and fourth grade ASK results and student attendance.
Plan to attend the next Parent Advisory meeting on November 17 at 7:00pm in our Library. All parents are most welcome to come and participate. Together, we review school programs and work together to try to make Hurffville the best it can be.
Enjoy the autumn season!
