WTHS Student-Athletes Sign National Letters of IntentWASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - Twenty-two Washington Township High School senior student-athletes have made commitments to continue their athletic careers in college, signing National Letters of Intent during the NCAA’s spring signing period. The following WTHS seniors will be honored in a group celebration beginning at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2008 in the high school’s 11/12 auditorium and will be available for interviews and photos: - Tyler Alcorn (baseball) - Stevens Institute of Technology Light refreshments will follow the celebration. Full bios of each of the student-athletes follow: Alcorn is a two-year letterwinner on the baseball team, and was tabbed as a member of Who’s Who Among American High School Student-Athletes. A National Honor Society member, Principal’s List and Honor Roll student, Alcorn was named AP Physics Student of the Year. He is a member of the Monthly Rewind television magazine show crew, and he plans to major in Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology. Bassetti was a two-year letterwinner with the girls’ basketball team, helping the squad to the conference title in 2007 and the South Jersey Group IV semifinals two years in a row. A senior captain, Bassetti also is a Renaissance Card holder, manager of the boys soccer team and a member of the Superintendent’s High School Cabinet. She plans to major in Secondary Education at Rowan. Bosnjak is a two-year letterwinner as a wide receiver on the football team. He was a second-team All-Olympic American selection and second-team all-county selection by the Gloucester County Times in 2006. Last fall, he was named first-team All-Group IV by the Courier-Post, first-team All-Olympic American and first-team all-county by the Times. In addition, the Touchdown Club of South Jersey named Bosnjak its Receiver of the Year, and he was picked to play in the Adam Taliaferro All-Star Classic. An Honor Roll student, Bosnjak is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and D.E.C.A. programs at WTHS. He plans to major in Accounting/Economics at Holy Cross. Bower is a two-year letterwinner on the Minutemen swim team. He holds two team records in the breaststroke and qualified for the state Meet of Champions in his sophomore and junior years. He is a two-time all-county selection by the Gloucester County Times. Bower is a Renaissance Card holder and a member of the Honor Roll and Interact Club. He is planning to major in Education at Rowan. Cicalese is a two-year letterman with the Minutemen soccer team. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the D.E.C.A. Club, and he played for the Ocean City Barons club soccer team. Cicalese plans to major in Business Management at The College of New Jersey. Dim is a four-year letterwinner in outdoor track, a two-year letterwinner in indoor track and a one-year letterwinner in basketball. She holds school records in the 200-meter (24.71 seconds) and 400-meter (56.1) and was part of the 4x400 relay that took first place in the South Jersey Girls and Philadelphia-area Girls championship races at the 2007 Penn Relays. Dim was named All-South Jersey by the Courier-Post in the 400 last spring, and was an all-county selection by the Gloucester County Times. A National Honor Society and Honor Roll student, Dim also is a Renaissance Card holder. She is a member of the Yearbook Club, Student Council, the Math League, the F.B.L.A. and the African-American Culture Club, and she serves as a Homeroom Representative. Dim plans to major in Human Physiology at Boston University. DeMarco is a three-year letterwinner with the swim team, serving as senior captain this winter. He was a member of the school record-setting 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams in 2007. A member of the National Honor Society, DeMarco also serves on the Student Council Executive Board. He plans to major in History at the University of Delaware. Chris Dunn is a four-year letterman in soccer and a two-year letterman in winter track and field. A team captain, Dunn was honored as a first-team All-Olympic American selection, and was tabbed first-team all-Group IV by the Courier-Post. An Honor Roll student, Dunn is a member of the National Honor Society and the Kitty Hawk Honor Society. He is on the NHS Executive Board and takes part in the WTHS Air Force Junior ROTC program. He plans to major in Electrical Engineering at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Mike Dunn is a two-year letterman on the Minutemen soccer team, helping the team to the Olympic American and South Jersey Group IV title last fall. An Honor Roll student, Dunn was named an Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar this year. He is a member of the WTHS Guitar Club and the Ocean City Barons club soccer program. Dunn plans to major in Marine Engineering Systems at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Gerace is a two-year letterman in football, manning the offensive line for the 2007 Olympic American champs. A National Honor Society member, he also is part of the D.E.C.A. Executive Board and the Honor Roll. Gerace is planning a major in Business/Organizations and Societies at Franklin & Marshall. Graziano is a two-year letterman in football and a one-year letterman in baseball. Tabbed second-team All-Olympic American and first-team all-county by the Gloucester County Times, Graziano is also a member of the National Honor Society and a Renaissance Card holder. He plans to major in Business Management at Rowan. Hearn is a three-year letterwinner for the Minutemen football team. He earned second-team All-Olympic American honors in 2006 and first-team honors in 2007. In addition, Hearn was the team’s leading tackler and earned second-team All-Group IV honors from the Courier-Post last fall. A Renaissance Card holder, Hearn plans to double-major in History and Education at Rowan. Higgins is a four-year letterman in wrestling, claiming three All-Olympic Conference honors. A three-year captain, he was a 2008 district champion and finished his career with 98 victories. An Honor Roll student, Higgins also serves as a parish usher at his church and was one of the Senior Students of the Month in September. He plans to major in Government/Politics at Franklin & Marshall. Jones is a four-year letterwinner, four-time most valuable player and four-time conference champ for the Minutemaids gymnastics team. A three-year captain, she won two South Jersey overall titles and was runner-up overall at the state championship meet the past two years. Jones is a member of the National Honor Society, the Honor Roll and Who’s Who Among High School Students and Athletes. She takes part in the Air Force Junior ROTC club at WTHS and has participated in USA Gymnastics for years. She plans to major in Biology/Physical Therapy/Pre-Med at the Air Force Academy. Keene is a four-year letterwinner in track and field and a three-year letterwinner in football. He won a Group IV state championship in the shot put during the 2007 outdoor season, as well as the 2008 indoor season. An all-South Jersey selection in indoor and outdoor track and field by the Courier-Post, and an all-county selection by the Gloucester County Times, Keene also is a member of the French Club, the National Honor Society and the Interact Club. He plans to major in Architecture at North Carolina. Kleinstuber is a three-year letterwinner for the 2007 South Jersey Group IV champion Minutemen soccer team. The forward won the team’s sportsmanship award this year and was tabbed third-team All-South Jersey by the Courier-Post. He was placed on the All-Olympic Conference team and is a member of the WTHS Student Council. He plans to major in Business at Rutgers-Camden. Marcucci earned varsity letters in football during his junior and senior seasons and was tabbed All-Olympic American, all-county by the Gloucester County Times and the team’s most valuable defensive back. He is a Renaissance Card holder and a member of the National Honor Society and the Honor Roll. Marcucci took part in the Freshman Transition program and plans to major in Pre-Med at Iona. Marzolf lettered four times in swimming and twice in track and field. He qualified for the state Meet of Champions as part of the Minutemen medley relay team that also received first-team all-county honors from the Gloucester County Times. An Eagle Scout and a member of the National Honor Society, Marzolf plans to major in Mechanical Engineering at Rowan. Noonan is a four-year letterwinner for the Minutemaids’ swim team, and she was named team MVP for the 2007-08 season. She was tabbed Gloucester County Times Female Swimmer of the Year and was an all-Group IV selection by the Courier-Post. Noonan is still undecided on a major at St. Bonaventure. Scarpato is a two-year letterwinner for both the conference and sectional champion soccer team and the lacrosse squad. He is a Renaissance Card holder at WTHS and plays for the Three Lions Academy club soccer team in Barrington, N.J. Scarpato plans to major in Physical Education/Health at Wesley College in Dover, Del. Turdo is a three-year varsity letterwinner for the ’Maids basketball team, serving as captain the past two seasons. A member of the Class Council and the Monthly Rewind television magazine program, Turdo plans on majoring in Film at Fairleigh Dickinson-Madison. Verchio is a three-year letterwinner for the Minutemen soccer and lacrosse teams. He was selected first-team All-Olympic American, first-team All-South Jersey by the Courier-Post, all-county by the Gloucester County Times, and the soccer team’s defensive player of the year in 2007. He also scored the deciding goal in the Group IV sectional championship game. In lacrosse, Verchio was team captain in 2007, as well as being named first-team All-Olympic American and team MVP.
