Hurffville Elementary School Awarded McDonald's Go Active! Grant

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - Hurffville Elementary School Physical Education Teacher Melissa McNally, School Nurse Jean Weis and School Librarian Beverly Siti have been awarded a Go Active! Grant from McDonald's Corporation to enhance physical fitness and nutrition at the school, one of ten schools to receive the $1,000 grant from the Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Northern Delaware regions. The grants were made available to fund educational programs that encourage 5th-8th grade students to lead balanced, active lives.

Hurffville will use the grant monies to finance educational materials relating to health and fitness, personal fitness diaries, posters and pamphlets displaying the new food pyramid and healthy eating guidelines, and to purchase fitness equipment such as personal exercise mats for Tae Bo, Pilates and aerobics. The staff also hopes to purchase heart rate monitors and/or pedometers for teaching target heart rate zones and other equipment for various fitness circuit training.
