Washington Township High School Senior Awarded National Merit Scholarship

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - Washington Township High School senior Matthew Gerber, who earlier had been named among 8,200 finalists being considered for three types of Merit Scholarship Awards, is one of 800 students nationwide to earn a National Merit Scholarship.

Gerber has been offered a $2,000 National Merit CNA Foundation Scholarship. The scholarship becomes effective in the fall and covers up to four years of full-time undergraduate study or completion of baccalaureate degree requirements, whichever occurs first.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), a test which serves as an initial screening of approximately 1.3 million entrants each year, and by meeting published entry/participation requirements.
