Boys Winter Track
The Boys Track team captured the Group 4 South Jersey Indoor Track Championship on Sunday, February 8, in Toms River, out-pointing Southern Regional, 71-33. Leading the way for the Minutemen were Xavier Fraction, who won the mile and 800 meters for the second year in a row, and Tim Carey, who won the 400 meters in a meet-record time of 49.6 seconds. Carey combined with Brian Keane, Devon Carter and Steve Morrone to win the 1,600-meter relay, as well. Also providing key points for the team were Joe Mineo, with a personal best in the High Jump to earn second place; and Anthony Dentino and Tom Gallaher, with third- and fifth-place efforts, respectively, in the 2-mile run. This is the first Sectional Indoor Track Championship in school history. The team competes for the State Championship Feb. 14-15 in Toms River.
Wrestling
The Minutemen swept a quad meet on Saturday, February 7, at Northern Burlington High School, pushing their record to 14-5. The Minutemen wrestle at Eastern in the first round of the South Jersey Team Tournament Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at 7 p.m.
Boys and Girls Swimming
Both the Minutemen and Minutemaids swim teams captured the Gloucester County Swim Championships on Friday, February 6, at GCIT. The boys team outscored Glassboro by a score of 254-245, and the girls team beat Clearview, 268-254. Senior Catharine Wood qualified for the State Championships in the 50 Free.
Boys Basketball
On Saturday afternoon, February 7, the boys basketball team defeated Camden High, 76-73, for only the second time in school history. The last Minutemen victory vs. Camden was in the 1989 State Tournament. Congratulations to Coach Bob Byatt and the team for qualifying for the South Jersey playoffs, which begin on March 2.
Girls Basketball
Congratulations to Coach Jenn Natale and the girls basketball team for defeating Willingboro High School in the Shootout at the Shore at Mainland High School on Sunday, February 8. The Minutemaids have secured the No. 1 seed in the South Jersey Group IV tournament and will begin play the week of March 2. |
