Washington Township High School Teacher to Serve as Panelist
at National Convention on the Teaching of Foreign Languages

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP –  Washington Township High School Chinese Teacher Ron Dempsey has been invited to serve as a panelist at the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages’ (ACTFL) National Convention to  be held in San Diego, Ca., on Saturday, November 21st.  The Panel will address the concerns of non-native speakers who are teaching Arabic, Chinese and Russian.

These three languages are less commonly taught and offer special challenges for teachers who are themselves non-speakers, who have learned the languages in American settings and who, as non-speakers, face other challenges inside and outside the classroom.

“We are very proud that Ron has been selected to be a part of this prestigious panel,” District World Language Supervisor Cathy Moncrief said.  “He is an excellent teacher, and he is totally dedicated to continuing to strengthen our Chinese program here at Washington Township. Ron is also anxious to assist other teachers and to share his expertise in his field and this is an outstanding venue for him to do so.   He is truly an asset to our World Language Department, and we are fortunate to have him on staff.”

Dempsey’s participation is being funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs through the U.S. State Department.
