“Mr. Breen is such a wonderful principal,” PTO member Jennifer Johnson said. “I have never experienced another parent who has ever had a complaint about Thomas Jefferson. It has been a positive experience since they opened their doors to us. We just wanted to honor TJ and to thank the Board of Education for helping them help us with our children.”
“What an honor it is to be recognized, not just by administration and the Board, but by my Thomas Jefferson family,” Breen said in acknowledging a large number of his staff who turned out in support. “It is truly an honor to be in this position, to work with such wonderful people and to have such supportive families. I am truly lucky to do what I do.”

TJ Parents Surprise Principal Gary Breen
Thomas Jefferson Elementary School principal Gary Breen knew there would be a presentation for his school at the May 22nd Board of Education meeting, he just didn’t know that the presentation would be for him. Recognizing the Breen has been in his current position for five years and that the fifth-graders, who will soon be moving to middle school, represented his first elementary school graduating class as principal, PTO representatives and parents decided to pay tribute to Breen for his positive impact on their children and families. The group presented a surprised Been with a framed photo of the entire fifth-grade class for him to display in his office.
“Every single teacher and person that my granddaughter has had at Thomas Jefferson is so loving and kind and giving,” said Vera Paoletti, who granddaughter, Astrid, is among the fifth-grade class. “It is just unbelievable.”
