WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – “We all fit together” was the phrase of the day for a group of students at Bunker Hill Middle School on Thursday, March 23, 2017. Students in Mrs. Taryn Homolash and Ms. Brianna Petrellis’ class joined up with students from Mrs. Bethany Franz’s Talented Art class to complete a project with special guests from Ocean City-based “Peace of Wood.”
The students used recycled wood squares provided by Peace of Wood owners Kristina and Marshall Young as their palettes and painted designs to go along with the theme of “We Are ___.” Some students completed the phrase with terms like “Township” and “Bulldogs” – BHMS’s nickname – while others went deeper with “creative,” “considerate” and even “awesome.”
On each square, a puzzle piece was sketched and made as part of the designs. The finished products will be used as part of a display in the BHMS hallway to help honor National Autism Awareness Month in April. The puzzle piece is one of the symbols of autism awareness.
Kristina Young of Peace of Wood is a Washington Township native who attended Chestnut Ridge Middle School before going to high school at Gloucester Catholic.
