Tuesday, April 18
Sophomore Gabby Vergani focused attention on the goal for “zero waste day” on Friday, April 21, 2017, since reducing waste is one of the most significant things people can do to combat climate change. She encouraged her classmates to bring in a reusable water bottle to school every day instead of disposable plastic.
Wednesday, April 19
Sophomore Lindsay Hazzan focused her comments on the reduction of energy usage, noting that just as the school district has switched to motion sensor lighting that turns off lights when they are not in use, students can turn off lighting, appliances and other devices when not in use. She also encouraged her peers to cut down on fuel consumption by considering carpooling to school, or taking the bus.
Thursday, April 20
Sophomore Shree Venkataraman made her priority the reduction of water usage, encouraging her classmates to avoid running excess water for showers and dishes and to water lawns and gardens only when necessary.
Friday, April 21
Sophomore George Gerber shared the creation of Earth Day, noting that it began in 1970 as a way to promote the ideas of ecology, encourage respect for life on earth, and highlight growing concern over pollution of the soil, air and water.

WTHS SAVE Club Members Deliver Powerful Reminders in Advance of Earth Day
Members of the Washington Township High School SAVE (Students Against Violation of the Earth) Club, under the direction of adviser Donna Pancari, started each morning in the days leading up the Earth Day sharing tips on consumption and waste with their classmates via the school’s morning announcements.
