WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Bells Elementary School fifth-graders in Mr. Nick Bozza and Mrs. Kelly Lamiotte’s classes recently received a visit from Richard Stockton University senior Matthew Lesyk. The Marine Science major, with a concentration in Oceanography, came to Bells to teach the fifth-grade science classes more about the ocean.
Lesyk showed video clips he filmed while scuba diving in Florida for a class, including images of sea turtles, Christmas tree worms, barracuda, grunts and porkfish, stingray, parrotfish, and a nurse shark. The students also learned how to fish for sharks and heard about Lesyk’s experience with sharking.
Lesyk also demonstrated how dense salt water is compared to fresh water, using food coloring dye to separate the fresh and salt water in a container.
