Multiage 2/3 is made up of a community of learners who work and play together. It is a unique program that combines an equal number of second and third grade students with two full time teachers. We are a true heterogeneous group and are modeled after real life communities where people of different abilities and talents interact cooperatively. Our program encourages friendships, promotes cooperation, and accommodates diversity and inclusiveness. Students, parents, and teachers work together as partners and communicate effectively to promote student learning. Students enter in second grade and remain through third grade to complete a two-year curriculum. Learning takes place through themes which are derived from our science and social studies curriculum and is supported by the reading of thematic trade books. The students in Multiage 2/3 develop an appreciation of one another which continues as friendships through middle-school and beyond. |
