PEP, TAG, MARS, ACT

The Primary Enrichment Program (PEP) is provided to all first and second graders once a week for forty minutes.  The purpose of the program is “to become better thinkers.” Activities are designed to enrich or extend the normal classroom subjects and emphasize creative thinking and problem solving.

The Gifted and Talented Program (TAG) is a pull-out program for students in grades four and five. Students are selected through standardized tests of achievement and ability, a creativity test, a teacher checklist, and a parent checklist. Classes are conducted once a week for 100 minutes to two hours. The units that are covered are based upon written instructional guides, which may provide enrichment in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts Literacy programs.

Math and Reading Strategies (MARS)  is a pull-out program for students in grades four and five. Student selection is based upon demonstrated high achievement and task commitment. Classes meet twelve times, once a week, for forty minutes. MARS is designed to meet the needs of those who excel in the content areas of math and/or reading and language arts. It provides learning strategies and creative enrichment experiences that will further enhance the learning abilities of the participants.

Advanced Curriculum for Third Graders (ACT) is a new program that replaces TAG for third graders only. The purpose of the program is to provide instruction to students who have demonstrated above average ability in Math and/or Language Arts Literacy. The program provides students with challenging opportunities beyond what the regular curriculum typically offers. The first half of the school year is devoted to Mathematics  with an emphasis on Everyday Math. The second half of the school year is devoted to Language Arts Literacy with an emphasis on writing instruction.
