WEDGWOOD MEDIA
SPECIALIST

| The Wedgwood Library supports the
educational goals of our district by collaborating with teachers in
providing timely, accurate information and reference services. The
library staff encourages children to develop a love of reading,
learning, and libraries by providing materials of high interest to
students. |
| |
| Students start in the first grade
learning lifelong library skills. As students progress through the
grades, new skills are learned. Students learn about authors,
genres, award winning books, how to access information using the
computer, the Dewey Decimal System, parts of a book, as well as
reference skills and how to write bibliographies. Book talks and
various activities are used to motivate students to read. |
| |
| Students in first and second grade
may borrow one book a week. An incentive program for second graders
allows them to check out two books if all students in the classroom
remember to return their book. Third through fifth graders may check
out two books a week. |
