Whitman Elementary School has been selected as a recipient of a 2004-2005 Governor’s School of Excellence Award.  This recognition was given to 22 schools throughout the state and carries a $25,000 financial award to the school.  The criteria that we responded to included:

  • Outstanding growth in literacy as evident in state test scores.
  • Meaningful and documented improvement for parental involvement
  • Creative, increased documented involvement with partnerships and/or the community.
  • Increased use of technology that is integrated into the curriculum as a tool of learning.
  • Demonstrated success in improving learning for special needs and/or specialized population.

This is truly a school and community recognition.  Everyone associated with our school, students, teachers, staff members, parents and community members should be proud of their efforts.

Our school was recognized by the State of NJ Governor’s Office, the NJ State Board of Education, State Assembly and the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
