District Philosophy:

The public schools of Washington Township are committed to a philosophy that each student should have the opportunity to develop his/her potential to achieve commensurate with his/her needs and abilities.  Gifted children have a right to an educational environment where their gifts are respected.  They require certain special educational services in order to assist them to more readily achieve their potential.

In order to provide equally for social-intellectual development, any program for the gifted should provide appropriate activities which permit gifted students to have an association with their peers, while requiring them to function with their chronological and social peers during a majority of the school week.

The emphasis of the gifted programs focuses on learning processes and cultivation of each student’s unique abilities to:

·        Think critically.

·        Build meanings and concepts.
