
Volunteer Opportunities
Listed below are the Home and School Activities currently planned for this year. Please take a minute to read each explanation and check the activities for which you would like to volunteer.. Your time and interest will be greatly appreciated.
· AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK (November) Parents needed for desk duty, signing parents/guardians in and out of the school during classroom visitation week. (Daytime)
· BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT (September 2006) Since Back to School Night falls early in the school year we need to request volunteers for next year. Help the committee make arrangements for Back to School Night including refreshments, light clean-up and helping out at the membership table. (Nighttime)
· BOOK FAIR (March) Help set up the library for the Book Fair and/or work in the library during Book Fair Week to help the children select and pay for their books. (Day and Nighttime)
· BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION (School Year) Help collect, clip, package and ship General Mills Boxtops, handle class winner’s pizza parties. (Day and Nighttime)
· CAKE BAKING (School Year) Bakers are needed for miscellaneous functions such as: Back to School Night, Christmas cookies, Teacher/Staff luncheon, etc.
· CANDY BAR BINGO (October) Help organize event. Set up and clean up the All Purpose Room the night of the event. Workers needed to pass out bingo cards for each new game and to verify winning cards. (Nighttime)
· COMMUNICATION ENVELOPES (School Year) Help sort mail for children sent home via a weekly communication envelope; deliver to classrooms. (Daytime - Every other Wednesday morning from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.)
· CONFERENCE WEEK (November) Parents are needed for desk duty, signing parents/guardians in and out of the school during conference week (Daytime)
· DARE (June) Help decorate and set-up light refreshments for the graduation program for the fifth grade students. (Daytime)
· DOOR DECORATING (December) Help decorate classroom doors in keeping with the holiday theme. (Nighttime)
· DR. SEUSS DAY (March 2) Read to the children at school during “special times” or help with day’s activities
· EMERGENCY CLOSING (School Year) Make phone calls to parents in the event of emergency school closing or unscheduled early dismissals. (Daytime)
· FIELD DAY ACTIVITIES (June) Assist physical education teacher with end of year field day activities and games in the schoolyard. (Daytime)
· FIFTH GRADE EVENT (June) Organize and chaperone whatever function is held at the end of the year for the fifth grade classes. This is usually a parent of fifth grade students. (Day with Nighttime planning meeting)
· FUNDRAISING (School Year) Assist in distributing fundraising merchandise. (Day and Nighttime)
· FRAMING FOR SPRING ART SHOW (January – May) Volunteers will work with Mrs. Rudnick, Art Teacher, to frame children’s art work for display at our art show. (Daytime)
· HOLIDAY GIFT WRAPPING (December) Help wrap gifts for the children. (Day and Nighttime)
· HOLIDAY WORKSHOP (December) Help organize and set up the workshop and help children choose the items they wish to purchase. (Day and Nighttime)
· ICE CREAM SOCIAL (June) Committee to organize social around a theme, purchase items, set-up, collect tickets, serve and clean up. (Nighttime)
· JUMP FOR HEART (March) Assist physical education teacher by turning jump ropes for students in either a morning or afternoon session. (Daytime)
· MOTHER’S DAY TEA (May) Organize cookie bakers and set up for 1st grade tea for mothers. (Day and Nighttime)
· SCHOOL PICTURES (October) Help children on the day pictures are taken, combing hair, straightening clothes, etc. (Daytime)
· YEARBOOK (School Year) Take pictures at school events and work on layout. (Day and Nighttime)
