GRADING PROCEDURES

A student's final grade in class will be determined by averaging the results of quizzes, tests, oral presentations, projects, classwork, homework, research reports and final exams. These reflect a student's mastery of areas as described in the course proficiencies. Classroom projects and outside research reports may be required in some courses. The grading system will be explained by each classroom teacher.

Progress reports are issued midway through each of the four marking periods.

Report cards are issued four times each year.

CHANGE OF COURSE

Once the student course selection process has started, the Guidance Department will allow changes in course selection until June 1, 2006. The only exceptions will be:

  • A required course was missing from the student's schedule
  • Two courses were scheduled for the same time
  • Student was scheduled for a teacher with whom the student had previously failed a course.
  • There is a desire to add a semester course in lieu of a second semester study hall, provided there are available seats in that particular course during that particular period.
  • An incorrect level of a course was scheduled.
  • A course requested was canceled due to low enrollment.
  • A student made up a course in summer school and is eligible to add an additional course to his/her schedule.
  • A student has registered for a sequential course but has failed the prerequisite course. The student will have the option of repeating the failed course or selecting a different subject.

WITHDRAWING FROM A COURSE

Students are required to carry a minimum of 14.5 credits (minimum of six classes) each semester.

A student withdrawing from a full year course before the end of the 1st or 2nd marking period will have that course removed from their transcript.

A student withdrawing from a full year course during the 3rd or 4th marking period will receive a WF (Withdraw Failing) depending on their performance prior to dropping the course. The WP or WF will appear on the student's transcript but will not be calculated into the GPA or class rank.

A student withdrawing from a full year course during any portion of the 3rd or 4th marking periods will receive a WF (Withdraw Failing) regardless of their performance to date. A numerical grade not to exceed 60 will be assigned and will be calculated in determining the yearly and cumulative numerical average and class rank of the student. The symbol WF will appear on the report card and permanent record.

Students withdrawing from a semester course must adhere to a similar timeline that is proportional to a full year course.
