Introducing Digital Audio Books

Getting Started

What are digital audio Books?

Digital audio books are downloadable versions of audio books, similar to what you might find in a cassette or CD format.

These audio books can be downloaded to you computer and used offline. Some can be transferred to portable audio devices, or even burned to CD.

What you need?

Digital audio books can be used on a variety of machines depending on the type of device and operating system. Free software for supported PCs, laptops, and PDAs is available from the digital book site.  The site offers digital audio books in the OverDrive Media Console format, which relies in Windows Media Player technology.

To access digital books, you will need:

·         Access to the Internet

·         Free software for the machine on which you wish to use your digital book

·         Your library barcode (see below) and password (your last name)

o   For students your  barcode is your student ID number

o   For staff your barcode is your voicemail extension

Directions

Step 1: Download the Overdrive Media Console
(This step only needs to be completed the first time you download an audio book)

You will need to install free software on the computer (s) on which you want to use digital books.

When the Installation is complete, the installation Complete window will be displayed.

**Speed of download will depend on the size of the file as well as the speed of your Internet connection

At the end of the digital book loan period, the title will expire and be automatically "returned" to the library. At this time, you can delete the expired file from your computer.
