Foreign Languages

  • Virtual Language Field Trips - this site developed by the University of Michigan contains lesson plans which allow foreign language teachers to use the resources of the Internet to take their students on virtual field trips; it also includes links to related resources

  • "To Know Spanish" or "To Know Spanish" Activity is designed to encourge students to speak the language as well as to improve their vocabulary and pronounciation.

  • ˇTarjetas Postales! This is designed for beginning to intermediate students. Students design postcards to reflect the life and work of a Spanish speaking artist and write messages of a personal nature to reflect their travelling experience.

  • Foreign Language and Cultural Awareness Students learn that culture and language go together, and study holidays other than those celebrated in the United States in order to better understand the culture and language of another country.

  • Concept Attainment Model "Boulangerie (Bakery)" This exercise can be adapted for use from K-12 up to college level. It is built around a concept, in this case "une boulangerie". Students distinguish between a "food shop" a "food establishment" and "food."

  • ˇComida! This exercise is centered around food. Students write recipe cards and cultural celebrations associated with their favorite foods.

  • Kodak lesson plans -  lesson plans in Spanish in using the news and letter-writing; the French lesson plan and the French lesson plan  has students creating a booklet comparing French and American teenage lives in situations requiring the use of reflexive verbs

  • The Presidents of the United States- Site describes the President and the First Ladies as well as a history of the White House. 

  • Anne Frank - this is an excellent source of information on the Holocaust and Anne Frank 

  • The Middle Ages - this Annenberg Exhibit provides a realistic portrait of life in Western Europe from the 5th to the 15th century 

  • Exploring Amistad - provides a detailed narrative of the revolt and links to resources to explore the history of this event; it contains over 500 primary source documents, journal entries and newspaper stories. 

  • Trenches on the Web - this award winning site provides a history of World War I; it includes primary sources, maps, journals, biographies, images and sounds
