Summary:  Wealthy Newland Archer is engaged to May Welland, but his well-ordered life is upset when he meets May's unconventional cousin, the Countess Olenska. At first, Newland becomes a defender of the Countess, whose separation from her abusive husband makes her a social outcast in the restrictive upper class  society of late-19th Century New York, but he finds in her a companion spirit and they fall in love.

All But My Life

Summary: The author tells of the three years she endured as a slave laborer of the Nazis during World War II.

Dune
Frank Herbert **

Summary: It is a distant galaxy in the far future. The year is 10191. Summary: This memoir provides the reader w ith the significance of the lives of the victims and survivors prior to 1933 and for the survivors after 1945. Fred Spiegel's biography tells his story during the years of 1933-45 ranges from his expeiences as a child during Kristallnacht to the concentration camps and then liberation.

* The Things they Carried  **
Tim O'Brien

Summary:  The soldiers who fought in the Vietnam war carried much more than weapons and the gear necessary for survival. They carried love letters, pictures of girlfriends, and newly formed memories that would fundamentally change their perceptions of reality. This novel is about these men, the war they fought, and power of storytelling to mend the life altering rift that war leaves in its wake.
