The Assignment

Objectives
Students should be able to
retrieve information on selected authors using at least 2 or 3 IMC reference books and/or approved electronic databases
access IMC web page and databases from home
utilize the completed report, along with later components, in preparing a thesis statement and argument for the final draft of the senior research paper

Evaluation:

1. Each report should contain all pertinent biographical information that could affect a writer’s perception of himself, his world, and his craft. (25 points)
2. Each report should combine paraphrase and direct quotes from at least 2 or 3 approved sources. (25 points)
3. Each report should contain accurate MLA documentation. (25 points)
4. Each report should reflect accurate MLA format (margins, spacing, headings, page numbers, titles). (25 points)

Components

* : Component One  -  Biographical Data
* : Component Two—a typed report on historical information relevant to author’s time period—will follow similar instructions.
* Component Three—a typed digest of at least 3 or 4 critical assessments of the author’s work—will also follow similar instructions and will be due . (Students should be ready at this point to develop a thesis statement relating an author’s work to biographical and/or historical influences. The thesis statement will be submitted as an addendum to the digest of critical analysis.)
* : Component Four—a correctly formatted image and discussion of a work of art (or a piece of music) that reflects in its subject matter or style the ideas inherent in a major work by the selected author.
* : Component Five—By this date, students should be able to weave together the various components to produce at least 5 pages of content which includes a strong thesis statement, ample and documented support, and discussion on a corollary work of art or music.
* : Completed Research Paper.
