Mrs. Christine Alcavage

Welcome

Hello, I would like to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about my background. I have been teaching for 30 years. I began my teaching career as a permanent substitute at Bells School in 1989. I was then hired at Hurffville School and worked here from Sept. 1989- June 2004. I taught a Primary Self Contained Special Education Class my first year and then taught fourth grade from Sept. 1990-January 1996 when I left to have my daughter Danielle. I returned the following September as a part-time special education teacher and then had my son Derek in March of 1998. I continued teaching at Hurffville until June of 2004. I decided to transfer back to Bells School in Sept. of 2004 as a part time Special Education Teacher and loved it there but I needed to return to a full time position since my daughter was starting college. I interviewed with Mr. Pollock and he offered me the job in 2012; so that is how I returned to my Hurffville Family once again! I have taught every grade level from first through sixth! For the past three years I have been teaching 5th grade science, social studies, math and resource math classes too!

I graduated from Rowan University (Glassboro State back then) with a major in Special Education and a minor in Psychology. I am dually certified in elementary and special education. I have also attended Rowan University for graduate courses in Elementary Education, Guidance Counseling, and Math. I am currently involved in some Personal Leaning Networks on Twitter, am on our district Future Ready Committee, and am a member of the planning committee for our districts EdCamp.

I have been married to my husband, Dan for 24 years and we have two children and a dog. My daughter Danielle is a preschool teacher and a senior at Rowan College at Gloucester County and my son Derek is a junior at Gwynedd Mercy University. Our other family member is a 3 1/2 year old Boxer named Roxie, that we rescued 2 years ago! My family and I live in Washington Township where both of my children were involved in sports and many other activities when they were younger. We like to vacation in both the winter and summer. We usually go skiing during the winter and then somewhere tropical in the summer.

Some of my favorite hobbies and activities are reading, working out, baking, shopping, and watching my son play lacrosse.  I also have two direct sales businesses which are Pampered Chef and Juice Plus+.  I have been a Pampered Chef consultant for 19 years and enjoy doing live cooking shows. I have also been a wellness coordinator for Juice Plus+ for 9 years.  In that job I teach people about health and nutrition, making healthy food choices, and incorporating exercise into their daily schedules.  Helping people get healthier is another passion of mine!
