Library lesson plans March 16, 2020
Learning Targets:
Students will review what the terms “fiction” and “Non-fiction”
Students will be able to explain the difference from a fiction (not real) and non-fiction (real) book.
Learning Activities: Parents some students mix up the term fiction and non-fiction. Help them to understand by talking about superheroes and their powers. Are they real? Why not? If not, then they are fiction/not real. As for non-fiction, talk about police office or firefighter as heroes. Are they real? Yes, what makes them real? They are people, who have been trained to help. You can use other examples if you need to.Students will choose a fiction book of their choice from the following website. Make sure the book is fiction.
After the reading, ask “How do you know this book is fiction?” Have the student give you examples from the book.
Students will choose a non-fiction book of their choice from the following website: Make sure the book is non-fiction.
After the reading ask, “What did you read or hear in this book that makes it non-fiction” Once again have the child give you examples from the book that explain it is non-fiction.
Review the difference between fiction and non-fiction stories.
