Mrs. Rosemarie Armstrong

Welcome to the exciting world of foreign languages!  Students will be learning to read, write, speak and listen in a language of their choosing.  Choices include:

Chinese, French, German and Spanish at the high school level
French, German and Spanish at the middle school level
Fifth Grade is an introduction to German, French and Spanish
Spanish at the Third and Fourth Grade level

Students will be exposed to authentic texts, videos, movies, and literature to expose them to the beauty of the cultures where these languages are spoken.  Assessments are varied and students will have integrated performance assessments where they will demonstrate their knowledge in all modes (Interpretive - reading and listening and Presentational - writing and speaking).

At the high school level, students can become involved in clubs for each language and have the opportunity to become members of the National Honor Societies for Chinese, French, German and Spanish.  Students also can sit for national exams to gain awards as well as gain a Seal of Biliteracy on their transcript which means that the student has reached an intermediate - high level of fluency in all modes (speaking/listening, reading and writing).

In 2014-2015 our students were given the opportunity to apply for scholarships with CIEE to go abroad for the Summer of 2015.  We received over $20,000 for student travel!

Washington Township has had a wonderful history of success with our foreign language program.  We look forward to continuing to enhance our program to help our students gain global awareness as well as demonstrate the skills for career/college readiness.
