The purpose of an alphabet chart is to help children make links between letters and sounds. The chart is to be used over and over again until the letters and sounds are internalized by the child. The child then uses their letter/sound knowledge to aid them when reading and writing. We have a smaller version of the alphabet chart that is used in the classroom. If you would like a copy for home please email me. The class reads the chart together. By using the same chart in the classroom and at home, your child will have consistency in the sound associations.
The chart should be read as follows:
A (letter name), apple, /a/ (letter sound)
B (letter name), bat, /b/ (letter sound)
C (letter name), cat, /c/ (letter sound) etc.
Make sure your child is pointing to the letter and picture as they are reading the chart. Be careful not to add a vowel with the beginning sound. Chant the chart all way through without stopping.
Thank you for supporting your child’s learning!
