Homework Tips

  • Dear Parents and Guardians:

You are part of the team that will help your child progress in their communication skills this year. During most sessions, your child will receive speechhomework in their speech folder.

Please note that this homework is different from what you may have received for older children/students. It is not expected that your child will be able to answer or say everything perfectly on these papers.

They are for practice and also so that you may have an idea what your child is focusing on in their speech/language sessions. Please remember to sign your child's homework and then return to school in their speech folder.

Most importantly, if you practice their homework with them for 5 minutes, 5 times a week, you will see faster progress than if you practice once a week for 20 minutes. Each session, your child's homework is reviewed and they then choose a sticker or stamp to put on their completed homework!

Most kindergarten students love homework but if your child is reluctant, try setting a timer for 5 minutes and let your child know that if they try their best for 5 minutes, then they are finished. They will realize quickly, that it doesn't take much of their time to complete.

It is unusual, but if your child seems frustrated, please send a note or call me and we can work through whatever the difficulty may be. At any time, if you have questions about your child's homework, feel free to call or email me.

Together, we can help your child become a better communicator!
