    The American Revolution was an Enlightenment-based revolution that was conservative, meaning that it was fought to preserve freedoms that Americans already had from the reimposition of British control.The American Revolution, while not conclusively impactful on world history, nevertheless, provided the example, template and the motivation for the far more influential French Revolution.

    The essential question regarding the American Revolution is whether or not is was a revolution to begin with, or merely a colonial war for independence from the mother country. While a definitive answer to the question may be impossible to reach, the analysis and discussion of the question allows us to understand the event more clearly and put it into historical context in a more accurate way.
