In 2nd grade, homework is assigned Monday-Thursday. The packets will come home each Monday and are due by Friday.
Fundations homework follows the same format throughout the school year:
Day One- Your child must write the trick words, skill words and sentence for the week.
Day Two- Your child must write the trick words three times each.
Day Three- Your child must write three sentences using the trick words.
Day Four- Your child must put their skilll words in ABC order.
Most of our Fundations units last two weeks; occasionally we have one that is only one week. New homework packets are provided on Mondays and the students keep this in their Take Home Folder for homework. The cover page with the word lists will be returned and placed into the back pocket of the Take Home folder. Please keep these lists for review througjhout he year. The wordlists may also be found on this site.
We typically have our Fundations Unit tests on Fridays. The parent letter (sent home in the beginning of each unit) offers a wide variety of ideas for you to help your child practice the words we are currently trying to "tap out." (Remember trick words cannot be "tapped out". ) Trick word quizzes are administered on an “on-demand” basis usually once or twice a marking period to see if the students are mastering these words.
Math We assign the practice of basic math facts, both addition and subtraction, on a daily basis for at least 5-10 minutes to help build fluency. Our goal is for mastery of these facts from 0-20 by the end of second grade. Your children will have access to a free website called First in Math to use both in school and at home. Please look for the login information to come home.
Occasionally homelinks or practice pages wil be sent home nightly to reinforce the skills being taught in class that day. Please take the time to look over the parent letter sent home in the beginning of each unit. They offer great ideas for additonal activities to help your child at home. Study Guides will also be sent home before each test.
Reading, the students will be asked to read for 20 minutes each night and record their reading on the weekly homework packet. Leveled Guided Reading books and/or Accelerated Reading books will also be sent home on a weekly basis. Please read these with your child and review any skills that were mentioned on the Guided Reading envelope.
On the rare occasion, Social Studies or Science homework may be provided.
Please make sure that your child's name and your initials are on all of their homework papers.
