READ!

Read! Read! Read!

  •

    • 4th Grade students are required to read for 20 minutes or more each night, 5 times per week. Total reading time should be at least 100 minutes per week.
    • 5th grade students are expected to read for 25 minutes or more each night, 5 times per week. Total reading time each week should be a minimum of 125 minutes.
    • Ideally that reading would be each night, Monday to Thursday, and then one additional time on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
    • On weeks that there is Family Night or a holiday, students will be told at the beginning of the week, the number of nights of reading that is expected.
    • When a student misses school, they will miss IDR time (as well as software instruction).  Make up work includes completing that night's reading as well as additional reading time to compensate for the reading time that was missed in class.
    • Every Monday begins a new week...and a new week of reading!
    • Student homework reading grades are calculated based on the goal for nights and minutes expected within a 3 week grading period. In Read 180 we have 2-3 grading periods within one marking period
      • For example:  Grading Period - September 24 to October 12
      • Expectations:  15 nights / 300 minutes (375 min for 5th grade)
      • Student Reading example:  13 out of 15 nights read =  87%
      •                                       275 out of 300 minutes read = 92%
      •                                       Homework Reading Grade (avg) = 90%
