Welcome to Mr. Herzog's Third Grade Online Lessons:
Keith Haring:
Keith Allen Haring was an American artist whose pop art and graffiti-like work grew out of the New York City street culture of the 1980s.
Before we start let's watch a couple of videos about Keith Haring.

Art One Project Keith Haring
Please read through instructions before you begin:
- Use a 8 1/2" x 11" white piece of paper (any paper will do).
- Hold the paper vertically.
- Fold the paper in half.
- Hold the paper horizonally.
- Fold the paper in half.
- Now your paper has four equal areas to draw your dancing figures.
- Carefully draw your dancing figure in the center of the paper. (See examples)
- Draw your dancing figure large enough so that your hand can not cover it.
- The dancing figure is a stick figure that is bubbled and stylized.
- Think about how the figure is moving- elbows are bending, hands are moving, knees are bending, and their waist is bending.
- Draw lines around the figure to illustrate movement.
- Once you are done drawing your dancing figure, outline the figure in a thick line.
- Color your figure in completely use a second color.
- Color the background in a third color.
- Use different colors for the other three dancing figures.
- You can repeat colors, but try not to have the same colors next to each other.
- You may color your dancing figure in crayon, magic markers, water color, or color pencils (whatever supplies you have at home).

- Remember: once you are finished with your artwork take a picture of it and email it to rherzog@wtps.org. Include the students name and teacher's name and grade. I will post it on Bells Online Art Gallery.
