This an app that you can use to practice your child's speech sounds over the summer. I apologize that I gave the information that it was a free app. Apparently that is no longer true and there is a charge of $1.99 to purchase it. It does allow you to record and listen to your child's production and they can score (with your help) whether their production was correct or incorrect. The pictures can also be customized by deleting pictures under their sound and importing different pictures of words that they use often when speaking.
I have found two other apps that are free:
My First Words by Alligator Apps- My First Words has several categories of flashcards but under settings, you can add, edit or delete a category and flashcards and make your own categories for each target sound your child has. It has a recording feature that allows your child to listen to their production.
Small Talk Phonemes by Lingraphia is another free app that does not provide pictures of target sounds but presents a video of the mouth and lips to present how each speech sound is produced.
A very fun, low tech way to practice speech sounds is by going through magazines, newspapers and store circulars to find pictures with their target sounds in them. A collage can be made by cutting and pasting their pictures on a larger piece of paper, which can hang in their room or on the refrigerator as a reminder to practice their sounds.
Language skills can be reinforced this summer through use of the Star Fall program, which presents a video of a story. This can be used with your child to elicit answers to who, what, where, why and when questions. It can also be used to discuss the sequence of events in the story.
As always, simply reading and enjoying books is a wonderful way to informally work on processing questions, recalling information, building vocabulary, answering with appropriate pronoun and verb use or using their fluent speech to answer questions about the story.
I hope some of these suggestions help your child continue to grow in their communication skills this summer. It has been my pleasure to work with your child, along with your home support this school year and I wish you a fun, enjoyable summer!
