Our Commitment to Accessibility
Washington Township Public Schools is committed to ensuring that our website and digital resources are accessible to all members of our school community, including students, families, staff, and members of the public with disabilities.
We believe that everyone should have equitable access to the information, programs, services, and opportunities provided by our district. Digital accessibility is an ongoing responsibility, and we are committed to continually improving the accessibility and usability of our online content.
Accessibility Standards
Washington Township Public Schools strives to ensure that its websites and web-based services conform to Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Our accessibility efforts are guided by applicable state and federal requirements, including:
-
N.J.S.A. 18A:36-35.1, which requires New Jersey school district websites and web services to be accessible to persons with disabilities and to conform to Level AA of the current version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines;
-
Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which prohibits disability discrimination by state and local government entities and establishes accessibility requirements for web content and mobile applications; and
-
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance.
Our Ongoing Accessibility Efforts
Washington Township Public Schools recognizes that maintaining an accessible website is an ongoing process. The District works to improve accessibility through practices that may include:
-
reviewing website content for accessibility;
-
using accessible page structures, headings, links, and navigation;
-
providing alternative text for meaningful images;
-
maintaining appropriate color contrast and readable text;
-
supporting keyboard navigation and assistive technologies;
-
working to ensure that documents posted to the website, including PDFs, are accessible;
-
reviewing video and multimedia content for appropriate captions or other accessibility features;
-
evaluating third-party digital tools and services used by the District for accessibility; and
-
providing guidance to staff responsible for creating and publishing digital content.
The District will continue to review and improve its digital content, practices, and procedures as accessibility standards and technologies evolve.
Third-Party Content and Services
The Washington Township Public Schools website may contain links to websites, applications, documents, or digital services provided by third parties. While the District works to select and use accessible digital resources whenever possible, some third-party content may be outside of the District's direct control.
If you experience an accessibility barrier involving third-party content or a service accessed through the District's website, please contact us so that we can assist you in accessing the information or service.
