Mrs. Julie M. Riggs
Dear 2rd Grade families,
My name is Julie Riggs and I am very happy to be teaching your children and expect that we will all get to know one another very soon. There are some great activities planned and ways to keep your children enthusiastic about learning. Mr Rodrigo will be joining our class for Math and will work with the students in whole group , small group and 1:1 instruction. If you have any questions regarding Math, feel free to contact myself or Mr. Rodrigo. Ms. McLaughlin will also be with us during our guided reading block and may work 1:1 or in a small group as our BSI teacher.
My credentials include a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Geography from Rowan University. I hold a Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education. While at Rowan University, I had many classroom experiences in local school districts as well as the opportunity to complete my student teaching at Birches Elementary School ( 2009) in 3rd grade . After graduation, I was a Substitute Teacher for Washington Twp Schools and well as other neighboring school districts. In 2012-2013 year I was here at Birches Elementary as a Long Term Substitute Teacher in 2nd grade. In 2013 I was hired to teach Third Grade. This year I am back in 2nd grade. I am very excited to be here on staff at Birches Elementary.
On a more personal level, I would like to share that my husband and I live in Williamstown with our two beautiful boys Bryan (age 21) and Matthew (age 15). In our home, we have many pets that include dogs, cats, and fish. As a family, we share many activities including board games, sports, day trips, and vacations at the beach. My hobbies include reading, decorating my home for the different holidays (Christmas is my favorite!), gardening, sewing, and anything crafty. I also love Disney, country music and Christmas carols.
I love being a teacher and am looking forward to the time that I spend with your child; together we will learn, work hard, and have fun. I believe in fostering open lines of communication, if you have any questions please feel free to email me, send me a note with your child or call the school and leave a message. Information about holiday events and classroom updates will be sent home shortly.
Sincerely,
Julie M. Riggs
