Mrs. Jan Sanders

Hello! Welcome to my website.

I am the Primary Self-Contained teacher at Wedgwood. I currently teach the 1st  and 2nd grade students in room 16. I have taught in a variety of educational settings in Washington Township: self-contained kindergarten, an inclusion class, in class support, resource room, and Wilson reading instruction. Before moving to New Jersey, I directed a preschool program and taught three-year-old children at a nonprofit in Connecticut.

I have four adult children, three of whom are graduates of Washington Township High School (and hold doctorate degrees). I value public education and strongly believe in lifelong learning. I enjoy music and integrate songs and movement into my instruction. I enthusiastically embrace the challenges of working with children with special needs and respect the importance of maintaining strong home-school connections.
My bachelor's degree is from the University of Michigan (pre-social work). I obtained my elementary teaching certificate through a Post-Baccalaureate program at Rowan University. I have a master's degree in Learning Disabilities from Rowan. I have a strong background in both reading and math. For a number of summers I instructed teachers and tutors for Reading ASSIST in Wilmington, Delaware. I successfully completed the Wilson Reading Level 1 Certification and have passed the Math Praxis for middle school math.
I am delighted to be able to work with you and your child at Wedgwood School! Please feel free to contact me with questions and concerns. Working together we can support and strengthen your child's learning.
