Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Calvin Spencer
Welcome to the home of TWP Bands. This webpage will be frequently updated to provide information about Washington Township High School's Band program. Current members should explore the links to find useful information regarding concert dates, lesson schedules, assignments, etc.
Currently, we have a 2 tiered concert band program that includes the Wind Ensemble and the Symphonic Band. Both classes are 5 credits, meet daily and have a pull-out lesson program on a rotating schedule throughout each marking period. These bands perform several concerts throughout the school year along with some special community performances as well. All students are welcome, however a placement audition is required which is usually done in the spring of the previous school year.
Our marching band is an additional 2.5 credit course that meets primarily in the summer and the 1st marking period in the evenings. The Minutemen Marching Band performs at all varsity football games and has their own competitive season in which they perform at both the regional and national level. They also participate in a large nationally recoginzed trip every other year. All band students are eligible to enroll in the course however any student is welcome to join as a member of the colorguard. For more information, please visit the marching band website: www.wthsmb.com
Our Jazz band is an additional 2.5 credit course that meets primarily in the 2nd and 3rd marking periods afterschool. The Jazz band is under the direction of Mr. Frank Appello and performs at several concerts and festivals throughout the year. Membership to the program is by audition only which is typically done in October. For more information, please contact Mr. Appello at email@example.com or follow him on Twitter: @TWPJazz
The pit orchestra is another TWPBands performance opportunity. This is a volunteer/auditioned group whose instrumentation is based on the selected all-school musical. Rehearsals typically run January through March afterschool with the performances in March. More information will be available in daily band classes.
Finally, we gladly sponsor students to participate in several honors ensembles throughout the year including: Olympic Conference Honors Band (www.ochb.org), South Jersey Band (www.sjboda.org) and All-State Band (www.njmea.org). Information about these groups is distributed in the band classes as they come up during the year.
