SLEO III, John R. Hamilton
Special Law Enforcement Officer John Hamilton is a graduate of Highland High School. In January 1993, he began employment at the Juvenile Detention Center in Clarksboro, NJ. He later attended the NJ Correction Officers Academy in 2002 and then he attended Gloucester County Police Academy’s Basic Course for Police Officers in 2003. John was employed by the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Department from 1993 to 2017, at which time he retired. He has experience as a firearms instructor and as the lead instructor for the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Department’s Junior Police Academy. John, his wife and two daughters reside in Blackwood. He enjoys bowling, coaching basketball and working out in his spare time.
John is an integral part of the school as he works with our honor guard to train them in proper flag etiquette, interacts with the students during lunch, and helps to ensure the safety of the students while in school. He also works with some of the Washington Township Elementary Schools. He is one of several SLEOs in the district and is an incredible asset as he acts as a conduit between the school community and the WTPD. Officer Hamilton is a welcome addition to our school.
