Mr. Darren Hagerman

Welcome to my class website! I have worked multiple times in the past three years at Whitman and probably have had your student in my class before. This is going to be an amazing year!!! I will teach ELA until Ms. Castano returns. Nothing is more important to me than your child's safety and learning progression. The ability to read is critical as your students are now "reading to learn" after "learning to read". The art of written correspondence has never been needed more in today's digital world of instant messaging and texting.

This is a second career for me after working for organizations like Eckerd Drugs, Sam's Club, Pitney Bowes, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and the University of Pennsylvania. Someone suggested I try substitute teaching while between jobs and my life has been changed forever. I went back to school (full time) while being a full time substitute, full time dad, and full time husband to get my Teacher Preparation Program completed. I work during the summers with kids at a day camp in Medford Lakes, and I am also a part-time assistant coach for my daughter's basketball team. I am connected with youth year round and find great joy in helping children meet personal and educational goals.

I promise to be responsive to your concerns. Please feel free to email me at dhagerman@wtps.org and I will get back to you as quickly as possible. If more convenient, simply place a written message for me in your child's take home folder and I will get it the next time they come to class. Together, we will build the support structure they can count on to propel them into their bright futures!

Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your child's educational success. I greatly look forward to the best year of school yet for your student.

Sincerely,

Darren Hagerman
