The WTPS Practical Arts/CTE programs offer a twenty-first century education that guides students towards high demand career pathways. Practical Arts/CTE programs consistently assess student learning through effective performance-based assignments and activities aligned with New Jersey Department of Education’s Core Content Standards. Through dynamic learning experiences that integrate rigorous applications of math, science, and technology, students are challenged to use critical thinking to solve authentic problems in today’s society. Practical Arts/CTE programs encourage non-traditional student participation through activities such as, a career and college speakers’ bureau, co-curricular and extracurricular participation in clubs and events.
Our middle school program embraces student-centered learning experiences that embed academic knowledge in math, science, and technology through a hands-on approach. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students explore careers through practical examinations of engineering technology and computer skills development while setting personal learning goals based on academic and career interests.
Our high school receives financial support through The Carl Perkins Grant, which is funded by the US Department of Education. Seven (7) CTE Programs of Study are offered to students: Cisco Networking, Communications (Television and Graphic Arts), Drafting/Pre Engineering, Culinary Arts, Clothing/ Fashion Design, Marketing and Sales, and Business Management and Administration. Furthermore, CTE Advisory Boards consisting of educators, professionals, and community leaders continually evaluate programming and monitor student learning. The board meets twice a year to review data in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and resources. The mission of high school Practical Arts/CTE programs is to foster a continuum of learning to become successful contributors in the global services economy of the 21st century.
