Board of Education Approves Christina Cox, Stephanie Martucci to New District Administration Roles

 

Cox Named Director of Curriculum and Instruction; Martucci Elevated to Full-Time Principal at Thomas Jefferson Elementary

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – The Washington Township Board of Education approved two administrative appointments at its June 30, 2026 public meeting. The Board elevated Christina Cox to the position of Director of Curriculum and Instruction, while also endorsing Stephanie Martucci as the new full-time principal at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. Cox and Martucci began their new roles on July 1, 2026.

Cox moves into central administration after spending the last nine years (2018-26) as principal at Grenloch Terrace Early Childhood Center and Kindle Elementary School. A veteran educator, she has been with the Washington Township Schools since 2008. Cox’s previous duties included Supervisor of Elementary Education (2016-18), primary self-contained/multiple disabilities teacher at Birches Elementary School (2011-16), and special education teacher at Bells Elementary School (2008-11).

As Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Cox will partner with Assistant Superintendent Tricia Holmes to manage the district’s academic portfolio, including instructional design, staff development, assessment metrics, and strategic programming. Cox will coordinate closely with instructional supervisors and building principals — with a dedicated focus on early childhood and elementary spaces — to guarantee a rigorous, unified, and innovative curriculum for all learners.

“Christina Cox is a transformative educator who has reshaped this district, elevated statewide practices through inclusive modeling, and wrapped this community in unparalleled support,” Holmes said. “She will continue to be an asset to the children and families of Washington Township as she moves into this new role.”

Cox, a 2012-13 District Teacher of the Year, holds a bachelor of arts degree in early childhood education, teacher of the handicapped, and American studies, and a master’s in school administration and supervision from Rowan University. She has earned certificates in teacher of the handicapped (Pre-K-12), early childhood education (Pre-K-3), elementary education (K-5), as well as principal, supervisor and school administrator certificates. She also is certified in Wilson reading, nonviolent crisis intervention, and is a certified school safety specialist.

Martucci takes over as Principal at Thomas Jefferson on a full-time basis after holding the position on an interim basis since April 2026. She replaces Holmes, who was principal at TJ from 2023-26 before her promotion to assistant superintendent.

Martucci joined the Washington Township Schools in 2016 as a digital literacy teacher at Wedgwood Elementary School. In July 2024, she was named the first Dean of Students at Wedgwood and Hurffville elementary schools. In that role, among other duties, she managed student behaviors, including restorative practices and consequences aligning with the Code of Conduct; collaborated with building leaders on student needs regarding social, emotional, and behavioral challenges; developed a lunch/recess safety handbook; and oversaw daily building operations in the absence of the principal.

“Mrs. Martucci is uniquely qualified to step into the role of Principal at Thomas Jefferson School,” Holmes said. “Having already established a reputation as a dedicated, community-minded leader during her time as a teacher and Dean, she seamlessly transitioned into the interim principal role — further elevating her skills and proving herself to be a dynamic instructional leader.”

Some of Martucci’s duties as principal will include monitoring all building functions; developing and implementing District curricula; organizing schedules; mentoring new teachers; coordinating state monitoring and budget formation; and evaluating standardized testing scores.

Martucci earned her bachelor of arts degree in early childhood education (dual certification in Pre-K to 3 and K to 5) from Kean University, and she received her master’s degree in public policy and educational administration from Rutgers University.
