Bells Elementary School fourth-grade students (left to right) Tanner Smith, Michael Burn, and Giovanni Franco reached the Finals of N.J. STEAM Tank Challenge.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP -- Washington Township Public Schools fourth-grade ELEMEnTS classes recently participated in the NJ STEAM Tank Challenge. A group at Bells Elementary School was the only one to reach the finals, which will be held virtually on May 18th.

The honored Bells students include Giovanni Franco, Tanner Smith, and Michael Burn. Their invention is "The Bendable Paper Cutter," which is a sharpened piece of nitinol that can be bent into various shapes. Nitinol is an alloy that can return to its original shape when heat is applied. Therefore, it is reusable.
