Two District Supervisors Among Educators Aligning Student Learning Objectives
Melissa Barnett Christine Gehringer
Washington Township English Language Arts supervisor Melissa Barnett and elementary supervisor Christine Gehringer are among teams of educators assembled from across New Jersey working to align student learning objectives to the state’s English/Language Arts and Math student learning standards. In particular, the teams are working to establish common learning targets to support schools in ensuring that every student has access to an aligned, standards-based curriculum. The work in developing the “Connected Action Roadmap” (CAR) is a collaborative effort of the New Jersey Department of Education and the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association.
“It is noteworthy that two of our District supervisors are playing an integral role in ensuring equitable opportunities for students in our District and throughout the state by their contributions,” District director of secondary education Dr. Steve Gregor said. “Melissa’s and Christine’s work as curriculum and content specialists will play a critical role in strengthening teaching, leading and learning, as well as professional development opportunities.”
The Connected Action Roadmap is a process of school improvements that connects standards, student learning, assessment, professional learning, educator effectiveness, and school climate and culture to the work of professional learning communities. The focus is on how educators collaborate to assist students in reaching the highest level of achievement. Guided by a common language and specific conversations, CAR creates a coherent plan for systemic implementation of effective practice, and makes curriculum development a priority.
