Four WTHS Wrestlers Advance to State Tournament
Four Washington Township High School wrestlers continued their remarkable 2023 season by advancing to the NJSIAA Wrestling State Tournament beginning March 2, 2023, in Atlantic City, N.J., following their top finishes at the Region 8 Tournament in Egg Harbor Tournament February 25-26, 2023.
The WTHS State qualifiers included:
Freshman Cole Hagerty (106), Region 8 Champion
Freshman Christian Hoopes (113), 2nd place Region 8
Senior Tyler Lucia (138), 3rd place Region 8
Senior Justin Hatton (157), 4th place Region 8
Other wrestlers who placed in the tournament but did not qualify for States included: Dylan Hetzel (120) ,6th; Robert DuCoin (126), 6th; Jackson Hoopes (132), 6th; Nate Leone (215), 6th and Shane Tait (285), 5th.
Additionally, Head Coach Eric Ring, who earlier earned his second consecutive District 30 Coach of the Year, was named the Region 8 Wrestling Coach of the Year. Ring has notched a 96-39 record in six seasons at the helm.
“We extend our congratulations to all of our wrestling student-athletes who have been part of a remarkable 25-2 dual meet record this year, setting a school record for wins in a single season,” WTHS Director of Athletics Kevin Murphy said. “We applaud Head Coach Eric Ring on his coaching honor and are excited to watch our four State qualifiers continue to build on this memorable season.”
