Their Own Olympics
Grenloch Terrace Red Wing Kindergarten Classes Hold “Opening Ceremonies” for Olympic Games
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – The six kindergarten classrooms in the red wing at Grenloch Terrace Early Childhood Center gathered in the school’s all-purpose room on Tuesday, February 13th, to host their own Olympic Games. It started with the “opening ceremony,” with each class entering the APR with hand-made paper torches while teacher Tom O’Brien played the Olympics theme song.
The students then stood and saluted the flag for the Pledge of Allegiance and the “Star-Spangled Banner,” before the events began. Each classroom showed off a different event. Mrs. Angela Otto’s class – which even had its own chant of “O-T-T-O, Team Otto, Go! Go!” – performed toe touches; Mrs. Kimberlee Purcell’s class did push-ups; Mrs. Laurie Chranowski’s class did jumping jacks; Mrs. Katy Martin’s class performed pencil jumps; Miss Caitlin Rigby’s class did sit-ups; and Mr. O’Brien’s class ran in place.
Once the demonstrations were over, the classrooms had a chance to try some of the other events. Then, the day closed with a procession out of the gym holding the torches.
