U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers' Chorus to Perform at Investors Bank Performing Arts Center
The United States Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus will make a stop at Washington Township High School’s Investors Bank Performing Arts Center for a free concert on Friday, March 15, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be limited to four per person and are available online at https://armyfieldband.ticketleap.com/concert-band--soldiers-chorus---sewell-nj/. The concert by the “Musical Ambassadors of the Army” will offer a unique blend of musical excellence and inspiring patriotism.
The Army Field Band will perform “This We’ll Defend,” a program that puts audience members side-by-side with the soldiers defending our country, allowing them to experience the landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day and believe in the brotherhood and teamwork that sustained soldiers under siege in Sadr City, Iraq.
“The Army remains committed to our soldiers, our veterans and our country, and it is the people of the United States who we all serve,” Col. Jim Keene said. “It’s a privilege to be in Washington Township connecting America to its Army. Using the power of music, our soldiers pay tribute to all service members who have liberated the world and who have preserved America’s freedoms and our Constitution.”
In 1946, General Jacob L. Devers, Commanding General of the U.S. Army Ground Forces, commissioned the organization of “a band that will carry into the grassroots of our country the story of our magnificent Army, its glorious traditions and achievements, and of that great symbol of American manhood: the Ground Soldier.” As a result, the Army Ground Forces Band was formed and in the spring of 1950, renamed the United States Army Field Band.
The Soldiers’ Chorus, founded in 1957, is the vocal component of the United States Army Field Band. The 29-member mixed choral ensemble travels throughout the nation and abroad and has performed in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, India, the Far East and throughout Europe. The musical backgrounds of Soldiers’ Chorus personnel range from opera and musical theater to music education and vocal coaching. This diversity provides unique programming flexibility, and the group’s performances often include the music of Broadway, opera, barbershop quartet and Americana.
“We are excited and honored to host the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus,” District supervisor of visual and performing arts Casey Corigliano said. “The professional musicians who make up these ensembles are truly the best of the best. They last performed here in April 2014 and appreciate the support that our community has given to them and the arts in general. Therefore, they were more than willing to include Washington Township as a stop on this year’s tour. This promises to be a concert that people do not want to miss.”
Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. on the night of the concert. Ticket holders must be seated by 7:15 p.m. Remaining vacant seats will be available to non-ticket holders at that time. The concert will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. Patrons are advised to arrive early in anticipation of a capacity crowd.
