WTHS Choir to Video-stream The Pop Experience 2021: “Moving Forward” May 8-10
The Washington Township High School Choir’s 2021 Pops Concert, “Moving Forward,” which was postponed in February, will be video-streamed home to audiences on May 8-10 via BookTix Live.
“Our students have been working diligently to keep singing alive and well, since our return to school this past fall,” WTHS Choral Director Joe Zachowski said. “Our main goal all year has been to maintain a sense of community, and this concert is all about how we move forward and learn from difficult things that happen in our lives. After everything we’ve been through, what comes next?”
In addition to performances by the WTHS Mixed Chorus, Treble Chorus, and Chorale, audiences will enjoy songs by a cappella groups Dynamics and Momentum plus several solo acts. The concert’s 25 songs include hits by Queen, Coldplay, Mariah Carey, Billie Eilish, and more.
Due to COVID restrictions and technical considerations, TWP Choir has been filming the show over the course of several nights in the WTHS Investors Bank Performing Arts Center. Senior and soloist parents have been able to attend portions of the filming, to enjoy their children’s performances live on stage.
“We made a commitment to provide this experience for our students and families, while also adhering to all COVID protocols,” Zachowski said. “Students are staged six feet apart and are performing in masks. It’s certainly been a challenge, but I can’t express how overjoyed I am that we made this happen while staying safe.”
TWP Choir typically supports a local or national charity with their annual show, and this year is no different. A portion of this year’s proceeds will benefit The Actors Fund (www.actorsfund.org). The concert will be streamed Saturday May 8th at 7:30 p.m., Sunday May 9th at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Monday May 10th at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for a $15 streaming pass can be secured at wthsnj.booktix.com.
