Kindergarten Snapshot Launches District's Youngest Learners on Path to Success
Thomas Jefferson Elementary School reading specialist Samantha Dulude and basic skills teacher Julie Balkenhol are among a number of District personnel putting the kind in kindergarten as part of the Washington Township Public Schools’ Summer Snapshot program. Parents of new kindergarten students are encouraged to sign up for individual sessions where their children are introduced to the school in a relaxed and personal setting and exposed to readiness activities.
“We spend time one-on-one garnering the child’s fine motor skills, letter recognition, number identification, knowledge of sounds and print concepts, among other things, so we have a starting point for each child,” Dulude said. “The snapshots are valuable for our teachers and help our kids get comfortable with coming to school.”
