BHMS "Colonists" Celebrate National Constitution Day
Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Bunker Hill Middle School eighth-grade social studies students in Kevin Appleby’s, Kathy Jeffries’ and Cathy Zeoli’s classes rang in National Constitution Day on September 17th like true colonists, dressing in period garb and celebrating their freedoms that are protected by the historic document.
As part of the celebration, students chose a patriotic symbol and crafted a paragraph explaining the meaning of the symbol and why they chose it. They also created ornaments that were displayed on the school’s “Liberty Tree” in the main foyer. Each class also wrote a note to “Father of the Constitution” James Madison, requesting a freedom and expressing their reason for the request. The students concluded with an original “Constitutional Carol,” which they sang while gathered around the Liberty Tree.
Bunker Hill Middle School Nick Van Duyne made an impressive James Madison while celebrating the role of the Founding Father on National Constitution Day.
